The 2018 Patelin de Tablas Blanc from Tablas Creek Vineyard is a multi-vineyard white Rhône blend sourced from nine top Paso Robles vineyards. Unlike the estate-only Côtes de Tablas Blanc, the Patelin draws fruit from four distinct growing regions, each selected for quality and complementary character. The result is a generous, vibrant, and intensely Rhône-like white that overdelivers at every level.
A Five-Variety Blend with Southern Rhône Roots
Tablas Creek builds this Paso Robles white Rhône blend around the crisp acidity and rich mouthfeel of Grenache Blanc. The 2018 vintage combines 48% Grenache Blanc, 22% Viognier, 13% Roussanne, 12% Marsanne, and 5% Clairette Blanche. Viognier contributes floral aromatics and tropical richness. Roussanne and Marsanne add structure and spice. Clairette Blanche, meanwhile, brings freshness and a distinctive mineral edge. Together, the five varieties create a wine that is both lush and precise.
A Vintage of Balance and Intensity
The 2018 vintage delivered near-ideal conditions. Although rainfall reached only 70% of normal, the late rains delayed bud-break and extended the growing season. Cool weather dominated most of the year, then a six-week heat wave hit in July and early August. Fortunately, temperatures moderated before harvest. The team picked without stress, and as a result, the fruit developed intense flavors alongside excellent balancing acidity.Crafted to Preserve Freshness
All five varieties were whole-cluster pressed and fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts. This approach emphasizes clean, crisp flavors and preserves the vibrant aromatics that define this wine. After fermentation, the wines were racked, blended, and bottled in May 2019. No oak contact. No shortcuts. Just precise, transparency-first winemaking.Tasting Notes: Aromatic, Lush, and Saline
On the nose, the 2018 Patelin de Tablas Blanc opens with an intensely Rhône-like profile: honeysuckle, orange zest, anise, and crushed rock. In the mouth, it feels lush but vibrant, with flavors of mandarin orange, nectarine, and white flowers. A saline mid-palate adds tension and lift. On the finish, citrus pith and sea spray minerality linger with excellent length, leaving a delicate orange blossom note. Drink now and over the next few years.
