Trestle Thirty One: handcrafted, small-batch wines led by a Master of Wine
Some wineries are built on generations of tradition. Others begin with an entrepreneurial spirit and the determination to create something extraordinary. Founded in 2015 by Nova Cadamatre, Trestle Thirty One belongs to the latter. Based in Geneva, New York, this family-owned winery produces small-lot wines that combine the freshness of the Finger Lakes with remarkable depth, texture, and elegance.
At the heart of Trestle Thirty One is Nova Cadamatre, who turned her passion for wine into a family business after a chance suggestion from her husband, Brian, saying “We should start a vineyard. It can’t be that hard”.
Nova is one of America’s most accomplished winemakers. A Cornell graduate, she built her career in California, working with grapes from legendary Napa Valley vineyards, including To Kalon, Hyde Vineyard, and Vine Hill Ranch. In 2017, she became the first female winemaker in the United States to earn the prestigious Master of Wine (MW) qualification, one of the world’s most demanding credentials.
While Nova brings exceptional winemaking expertise, she also excels in business strategy. She has built Trestle Thirty One around a singular vision: producing distinctive, small-batch wines that showcase the extraordinary potential of New York’s Finger Lakes.
Family is woven into every detail. The winery takes its name from a historic railroad trestle visible from their property overlooking Seneca Lake, while its distinctive labels feature artwork created by Nova’s mother.
A Different Approach to Winemaking
The Finger Lakes are celebrated for their vibrant acidity, expressive fruit, and elegant cool-climate wines. Nova takes these natural strengths a step further. While many of our wineries emphasize minimal intervention, Trestle Thirty One embraces thoughtful, hands-on winemaking to build additional complexity and texture.
Extended cold soaking gives the Rieslings greater structure. Prolonged lees aging adds richness and depth to both Riesling and Chardonnay. Rather than rushing wines to market, Nova allows additional bottle aging to bring their naturally lively acidity into balance. Every decision is guided by the character of the grapes and the vintage. The result is a distinctive style: wines that retain the freshness and precision of the Finger Lakes while offering remarkable texture, complexity, and maturity
How we Discovered Trestle Thirty One
Sometimes, the best wines find you. At Wine Paris, I was having a conversation at the Boldly NY stand with a glass of wine in my hand. I hadn’t paid much attention to what had been poured, but the wine was so impressive that I interrupted the conversation to ask what I was drinking. It was Trestle Thirty One.
That unexpected discovery stayed with me. And it’s exactly why we started americanwine.club: to bring remarkable American wines to Europe that deserve a much wider audience.
