At americanwine.club we are honoured to present the 2019 Panoplie from Tablas Creek Vineyard, located in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, California. This wine is the estate’s most exclusive bottling, produced only in exceptional vintages and from the most select vineyard lots. In 2019 just 820 cases were made. This wine is allocated and limited to one bottle per customer.
The 2019 vintage began with generous winter rainfall and a cool early summer, delaying bud break and extending the growing season. From July onward moderate heat allowed excellent ripening of later‑maturing varietals. The final blend for Panoplie 2019 is 62% Mourvèdre, 22% Syrah and 16% Grenache — hand‑chosen from the top 5 % of lots.
Fermented using native yeasts in large wooden upright and open‑top tanks, followed by extended ageing in 1,200‑gallon French oak foudres, the wine was bottled in July 2021.
On the nose expect aromas of sweet loam, red currant, milk chocolate and new leather. On the palate the wine delivers intense red and black fruit (raspberry, cherry), an umami‑like teriyaki element and a wave of serious tannins that promise decades of evolution. The finish lingers between dark licorice, savory herbs and sweet earth.
This is a wine built for long‑term cellaring (2028‑2050), though it displays beautiful structure and richness today for those who seek depth. Serve at 17‑18 °C, decant for 45 minutes if young and pair with leg of lamb, braised short ribs or aged farmhouse cheeses.
