Château Montelena became world-famous after its 1973 Chardonnay won the historic 1976 “Judgment of Paris” tasting, beating the top white Burgundies and proving that Napa Valley could compete with the very best. The winery, founded in 1882 and located in Calistoga, was revived in the 1970s by Jim Barrett and is now led by his son Bo.
