Tablas Creek 2019 Mourvèdre

At americanwine.club we are pleased to offer the 2019 Mourvèdre from Tablas Creek Vineyard, located in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, California. This marks the sixteenth varietal release of Mourvèdre from the estate, grown on certified organic and biodynamic vineyards. While most of the Mourvèdre on the estate finds its way into the flagship Esprit de Tablas, only the most distinctive lots are bottled as this single‑varietal expression.

The 2019 vintage began with abundant winter rainfall that delayed bud‑break and produced a compressed, intense harvest. The Mourvèdre grapes were destemmed, fermented on native yeast in large wooden tanks, then moved into 1 200‑gallon French oak foudres for further aging. The final wine was blended in spring 2020 and bottled in April 2021.

On the nose you will detect brambly raspberry, new leather and sugar‑plum. The palate presents crunchy red fruit framed by plum‑skin acidity, earthy loam complexity, sweet baking spice and salty minerality. Firm yet refined tannins carry to a long finish. This is a wine meant to age gracefully for the next decade or more. Notable critic scores include 94 pts from Wine Enthusiast, 93 from Wine Advocate and 92 from Wine Spectator.

Serve it with richly flavoured stews, pork chops with fruit reduction or even bittersweet chocolate desserts. Best served at 16‑18 °C and decanted if within its first few years.
