The Monkey Jacket is California at its most rebellious and free-spirited. Crafted by sparkling wine pioneer Michael Cruse, this red blend breaks all the rules and still ends up unforgettable. The 2022 vintage combines dry-farmed Valdiguié from Calistoga, old-vine Carignan and Petite Sirah from Redwood Valley, a touch of Tannat, and for the first time, Zinfandel from Eaglepoint Ranch high above the Ukiah Valley.
All vineyards are farmed organically, with an average vine age of 70 years. Around half of the fruit was fermented whole cluster in concrete tanks, then aged in a mix of concrete and used barrels. The result is a lively, expressive red that balances brightness and depth without ever losing its playful edge. You’ll find notes of strawberry jam, pepper, plum, and raspberries, with gentle tannins and hints of tobacco leaf on the finish. It’s ideal with a slight chill, perfect for sharing, and impossible not to love.
Great with burgers, grilled veggies, tacos, or even a simple pizza night. Especially delightful when slightly chilled.
