Our visiting winery for Christmas: Jacques Picard Brut Réserve is a classic grower Champagne from the family estate in Berru, located in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. The Picard family has produced Champagne since 1962 and is known for a precise, elegant style that focuses on purity, finesse, and long aging on the lees. Brut Réserve is crafted from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier sourced exclusively from the estate’s Premier Cru vineyards.
Fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel preserves the bright orchard fruit and floral aromatics that define this wine. Extended aging on the lees adds depth and a fine mousse, giving the cuvée both freshness and complexity. On the nose, the wine shows notes of citrus, white peach, brioche, and almond. The palate is balanced and refined, with vibrant acidity, subtle minerality, and a clean, persistent finish.
Jacques Picard Brut Réserve has been served at high profile diplomatic and state occasions. The Champagne was chosen for the coronation ceremony of King Charles III, where it was poured at the private reception for dignitaries and invited guests. This moment underlines the reputation the estate holds among connoisseurs who appreciate its understated expertise and commitment to quality.
This is a versatile Champagne that works beautifully as an aperitif and has enough depth to pair with oysters, seafood, sashimi, soft cheeses, and light poultry dishes. For celebrations or everyday elegance, Brut Réserve offers remarkable value and the authenticity of a family run Champagne house.
