The 2023 Janus Pinot Noir from Brooks Wine stands as the estate’s boldest and most vibrant expression of Oregon Pinot Noir. Janus is the flagship wine of Brooks, named for the Roman God of beginnings and balance. This wine blends depth, finesse, and pure fruit energy from some of the Willamette Valley’s most varied vineyard sites.
This vintage earned 95 points from James Suckling, who praised its bright red fruit and layered complexity. The wine opens with fragrant aromatics of pomegranate, violet, and herbs de Provence. On the palate, dynamic layers of black cherry, ripe strawberry, and red apple skin unfold with a pleasant and lingering finish.
Brooks harvested the 2023 fruit after a growing season marked by early delays and later ideal summer conditions. The grapes were hand sorted and fully destemmed before fermentation, and the wine spent eleven months in French oak barrels. This careful process preserves freshness while building texture and nuance in the glass.
Janus reflects the diversity of the Brooks vineyard sources, including Brooks Estate, Crannell, Muska, Sunny Mountain, Temperance Hill, and others across the Willamette Valley. Only around 1,000 cases were produced, making this wine rare and sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
In the glass, this Pinot Noir feels vibrant yet grounded. Bright acidity supports rich fruit without heaviness, and fine tannins add structure without detracting from the wine’s elegant core. Janus pairs beautifully with herb‑crusted duck, roast pork, grilled portobello mushrooms, or tomato‑based dishes with fresh herbs.
At americanwine.club, we are proud to offer the 2023 Janus Pinot Noir to our European community. This wine demonstrates the dynamic range and artistry of Oregon Pinot Noir and showcases Brooks’s commitment to terroir‑driven, expressive winemaking.
