Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is one of the great names in American wine history.
At the 1976 Judgment of Paris, its 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon was ranked first among the red wines, ahead of some of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates. That moment changed the global perception of Napa Valley and helped place American Cabernet Sauvignon firmly on the fine wine map.
At americanwine.club, we usually focus on independent and family-owned wineries. Still, some producers are simply too important to leave out. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is one of them. To understand the rise of Napa Valley, you need to understand this estate.
That is why we added two wines from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars to our portfolio: Karia Chardonnay 2024 and Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021.
Karia Chardonnay shows the elegant, fresh side of Napa Valley. The fruit comes from selected vineyards influenced by the cooling breezes of San Pablo Bay. This helps preserve acidity and balance, while allowing the wine to develop expressive fruit and subtle texture. In the glass, Karia offers citrus, green apple, pear, and gentle baking spice. It is bright, polished, and food-friendly, with carefully integrated oak and a clean finish.
Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon represents the classic Napa Valley story. Sourced from selected vineyards across the valley, it combines mountain structure with valley-floor generosity. The 2021 vintage brought concentration, purity, and balance. The wine shows blackberry, blackcurrant, cedar, dark chocolate, and spice, supported by refined tannins and a long, elegant finish.
Together, these two wines tell two sides of Napa Valley. Karia reflects precision, freshness, and quiet elegance. Artemis carries the depth, structure, and legacy that made Napa Cabernet famous.
For us, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is not a departure from our mission. It is part of the foundation. americanwine.club is about more than selling bottles. We want to tell the story of American wine and make its most important chapters accessible in Europe.
These wines help explain why American wine matters.
