At americanwine.club, we are proud to feature the 2021 Pagani Ranch Zinfandel from Ridge Vineyards—a bold, expressive red with historic roots and a modern soul. This wine hails from one of Sonoma Valley’s most iconic old-vine sites: Pagani Ranch, where some vines date back more than 120 years. First planted in the 1890s, the vineyard sits on the western side of Sonoma Valley and remains in the care of the same dedicated family that has farmed it for four generations.
The 2021 vintage is a field blend led by Zinfandel (approximately 90%), rounded out by Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet. Each variety was harvested, fermented, and aged with Ridge’s minimalist, terroir-driven approach. The result is a wine that captures the vineyard’s distinct character—intense yet balanced, structured yet beautifully layered.
On the nose, it opens with wild blueberry, red cherry, bramble, and hints of dark chocolate and cracked pepper. The palate delivers a rich wave of fruit—saturated but never heavy—balanced by vibrant acidity and fine, polished tannins. Notes of baking spice and mineral edge add depth to the long, elegant finish.
This wine is already showing beautifully, especially with a 30–60 minute decant. However, it has the structure and balance to reward cellaring for 8–10 years. Serve it at 16–18 °C alongside grilled meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses for a classic pairing.
Ridge has been producing Pagani Ranch Zinfandel since 1991, and the 2021 vintage continues this legacy with precision and vibrancy. It is a compelling wine for collectors, lovers of California heritage vineyards, and fans of Zinfandel at its most expressive.
