Ridge Vineyards has long stood at the intersection of tradition and innovation. The 2019 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from their famed Monte Bello estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains perfectly captures that legacy. Grown at high elevations on organically farmed limestone soils, this wine reflects the region’s cool-climate structure and Ridge’s precise winemaking philosophy.
The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Each varietal is fermented separately using native yeast before being aged in American oak barrels. This approach highlights Ridge’s signature style—minimal intervention, vineyard transparency, and age-worthy balance.
In the glass, it opens with pure aromas of black cherry, graphite, wild sage, and warm baking spice. On the palate, juicy dark fruit meets fine-grained tannins and crisp acidity. Flavors of cassis, dark plum, cedar, and roasted herbs layer over one another, unfolding into a long, polished finish. The use of American oak adds just the right touch of spice without dominating the fruit.
The 2019 growing season brought moderate conditions, allowing for slow ripening and excellent flavor development. As a result, this wine is both expressive and structured. It is approachable now with an hour of decanting but will reward cellaring for 10 to 15 years. This is a bottle for those who appreciate restraint, depth, and true terroir expression.
Pair it with herb-crusted lamb, aged cheddar, or roasted wild mushrooms. Serve at 16–18 °C and enjoy the elegance that defines Ridge. We suggest buying three: one to enjoy now, one to share, and one to cellar.
