At americanwine.club, we’re proud to feature this Blaufränkisch (also known as Lemberger) from the cool-climate slopes surrounding Keuka Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes region. This red grape, rooted in Central European tradition, is emerging as one of the region’s most expressive and food-friendly varieties. In this vintage, it delivers both vibrancy and spice in elegant harmony.
The wine opens with savory aromas of toasted black pepper, cedar, and dried herbs. On the palate, bright red fruit takes the lead — think sour cherry, cranberry, and red currant — followed by a lift of fresh acidity and a whisper of earthy spice. The body remains light, but the flavor profile is layered and nuanced. Fine, supple tannins create a silky texture that lingers through the finish, making each sip both easy and intriguing.
Crafted by winemaker Hans Peter Weis, this Blaufränkisch reflects both Old World heritage and New World terroir. Originally from Germany, Weis brings precision and clarity to every wine he touches. The grapes for this bottling were grown in sustainably farmed vineyards on the steep hillsides above Keuka Lake. After being hand-harvested, they were fermented with minimal intervention, allowing the grape’s natural character to shine through.
This is a versatile wine at the table. Pair it with black pepper–crusted steak, grilled sausages, or roasted root vegetables. It also complements schnitzel, herbed poultry, or mushroom-based dishes. Serve slightly chilled, around 14–16 °C, to bring out its vibrant aromatics and zesty structure.
Blaufränkisch from the Finger Lakes may still be under the radar, but it offers remarkable depth and character. This bottle captures that potential beautifully. Available now — exclusively through americanwine.club.
